    International Food Information Council forecasts food trends for 2022

    Nostalgia, sustainability and e-commerce all should continue to thrive in 2022, according to a forecast of food trends from the International Food Information Council. Food insecurity and exotic flavors will be topics of note, and terms like kokumi, “reducetarian” and COP26 could be heard often as well, according to the Washington-based IFIC. Consumers’ desire for wellness will have them seeking whole grains and fiber, and they will explore immune health as well.     An International Food Hall With 6 Vendors Heads For The Beechmont Neighborhood

    A Beechmont building, formerly the home of La Chandeleur, is undergoing a big change: This spring, it will become an international food hall known as The StrEATery. The space at 304 Woodlawn Ave. will be home to six food vendors, including a brunch restaurant and Fresh Out the Box, an Asian fusion restaurant with a location at Logan Street Market and a food truck.     Another record quarter for international food safety network

    A global food safety network was involved in 65 incidents from July to September, which is more than earlier this year. It is the third successive quarter that events involving the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) have gone up, with 63 from April to June and 56 in the first quarter of this year. Salmonella was part of 46 incidents involving a biological hazard followed by Listeria with 11. Next was E. coli with four, a couple each for Bacillus cereus, Hepatitis A, Norovirus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus and one each for Clostridium botulinum and Staphylococcus aureus. Salmonella melon outbreak

    Otero College hosting International Food Night Nov. 11.

    Otero College’s 26th annual International Food Night, which celebrates cuisines from around the world, will return to an in-person format this fall. Hosted by the college’s International Relations Office, the event — which is typically held each year in the spring —  is returning to the college on Thursday, Nov. 11, in the Rizzuto Banquet Room. “Our community needs a soiree!” International Relations Director Maureen Rikhof said in a news release. “We are confident we can have a fun and successful event at this time! We look forward to hosting our community on campus.” An International Foods Night virtual event
