GloRilla’s rise to fame has been meteoric and it wasn’t too long ago the budding Memphis rapper was working a normal 9-5. Recently, video has surfaced of the “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” rapper working at the drive-thru at Checkers. On Tuesday (Nov. 29), TikTok user primeape09 shared a throwback video of Glo on Instagram Live while taking orders at the fast-food restaurant. The video begins with her joking with the people watching her Live, initially mocking one person for asking for free […]

Following the “green” Mediterranean diet helps burn fat three times faster than typical healthy eating, a new study shows. Research published in the BMC Medicine journal found that eating a plant-based Mediterranean diet allowed the body to burn a dangerous type of body fat at triple the rate compared to those on a generally “healthy” diet. Those who consumed the diet for 18 months saw their visceral fat levels reduced by 14%, compared to a control group who ate a standard […]

A white suburban housewife clad in a lime green leotard finishes her Jane Fonda video workout, rewards herself with a fat-free SnackWell’s devil’s food cookie, then slams back a SlimFast shake before heading to her weekly Weight Watchers meeting. To Gen Z, this scene might read like a comedy sketch, but millennials who came of age in the ‘90s knew that woman. For us, the era’s long-lasting impacts—disordered eating, body dysmorphia, an affinity for packaged foods with purported perks—are the […]

Editor’s note: This is part one of a two-part series on emotionally driven consumers and their connection to quick-service restaurants. Part two will cover testing methodologies that empower emotional transparency. If you’ve ever overheard two people in the middle of a heated debate between thin-crust or deep-dish pizza, you understand there’s no doubt our relationship with food is deeply emotional. I was invited to a collaging party at a friend’s house recently. Crafting of any kind is pretty new to me, but I fell hard for the process of riffling through piles of magazines, old picture books, discarded catalogs and stacks of textured, printed papers. My contribution was a bunch of pressed autumn leaves and — no surprise — some snacks and beverages to sustain us while we snipped and chatted. I mention this because December, which starts tomorrow, is […]

That’s what gathered SEMO students together on Tuesday in Cape Girardeau as they offered foods from their own countries as part of the International Education Week. Students we talked with said this is a great way to educate others on some of the culture from their home. “I would like for people to see our traditional food, our sweets,” Issra Mrad […]

kristine M. Kierzek Cooking is a continuum of care for Sara Crawley. Feeding others feeds her own needs, too.  Crawley started out studying nursing, and while putting herself through school she worked in the restaurant industry. It quickly became clear to her that her path was meant to be in food.  She attended Waukesha County Technical College’s culinary program, then worked her way through roles in restaurants and catering with Eddie Martini’s.  Five years ago she took on the role […]

A new study indicates that eating a low-fat, vegan diet could decrease the risk of chronic illnesses like type 2 diabetes. The research was published in Dietary Science and Practice. It looked at the ways in which low-fat, plant-based foods impact body weight and composition, as well as insulin sensitivity. The 16-week study, conducted by Hana Kahleova and Neal D. Barnard, observed 244 overweight individuals assigned to either the intervention or control groups. The intervention group was prescribed a low-fat […]

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, if kept frozen, ground beef remains safe to cook and consume indefinitely, though it is at its best, taste and texture-wise, within four months. Fresh ground beef, on the other hand, is only at its best for about two or three days after purchase.
